Duelling petitions have surfaced regarding the fate of beleaguered Belleville Police Constable Todd Bennett.
Constable Bennett has been under fire since his personal Facebook posts were discovered showing him wearing confederate clothing and supporting confederate south as well as Donald Trump.
Initially a “Terminate Const. Bennett from BPS” petition was started three days ago by Lorraine Postma following the leaked posts on social media. At the time of publication the petition has gathered 18,167 signatures.
In light of that petition, Tracey Arsenault created a “Keep Todd Bennett” petition. At the time of publication the petition has received 494 signatures since being created two days ago.
Constable Bennett has since deleted his posts and issued an apology to the public. The matter now sits in the hands of the Belleville Police Service on how to move forward.
