The Tim Hortons “Smile Cookie” campaign has brought a smile to the more than 150 animals at the Quinte Humane Society.
The Tims locations in Belleville and Quinte West donated $68,061.50 to the Society from the cookie campaign.
At the cheque presentation on Wednesday, Doug Robertson of the Quinte West establishments tells Quinte News the idea came from his wife Josephine, and they all decided as a group to get involved “for the love of animals.”

Society Executive Director Frank Rockett tells Quinte News there are a dozen dogs and 150 cats in the shelter right now.
Rockett says the animals remain in the shelter and are not euthanized unless at the advice of a veterinarian, because of health issues.
The Toronto Humane Society helps by taking some of the local animals for people seeking pets in that area.
Rockett notes that no decision has yet been made but the money will probably be used, in part, for the annual operation of the animal shelter, and in part, toward the fundraising for the proposed new shelter.
Right now, the shelter houses about a dozen dogs and about 150 cats that are all looking for new homes.
