City’s emergency services on display

It’s Emergency Preparedness Week and do you know what to do if an emergency were to occur?

On Monday afternoon, Belleville’s emergency services and other groups were showing some of the things they do when disaster strikes, at the city’s Emergency Management open house.

Belleville Police Detective Inspector Sherri Meeks says this open house gives the local force the opportunity to show off some of the tools of the trade that the general public doesn’t often get the chance to see.

Councillor Garnett Thompson showed up at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre and says it’s a great opportunity for people to learn about what the city can do in an emergency.

The Open House runs from 1-6 p.m. at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre.

This year’s participants include:

Belleville Fire and Rescue Services – Hastings County – Elexicon Energy – Salvation Army

St. John Ambulance – Quinte Conservation – Insurance Bureau of Canada – Belleville Police Service

Office of the Fire Marshal & Emergency Management – CriSys Xpert Disaster

Volunteer and Information Quinte – Ministry of Community and Social Services

Community Safety and Well Being Committee – Canadian Blood Services

Hastings Prince Edward Public Health – 211 Ontario

This year, for the first time, Canadian Blood Services will be holding a Blood Donor Clinic at the Open House. The Blood Donor Clinic is from 1:00 – 7:00 p.m.
