The Belleville Senators missed out on another crucial point, in the race for the final playoff spot in the American Hockey League’s north division, falling 3-2 in a shootout to the Devils in Binghamton on Saturday.
Belleville did get on the board early when Logan Brown rushed in from the right wing and stuffed the puck past Corey Schneider at 1:23 for his 10th of the season, but the Devils countered late in the frame, when Marian Studenic buried his 11th past Marcus Högberg.
The B-Sens jumped back in front within the first 3:00 of the second, with Max McCormick forcing a turnover in the defensive zone, before jumping up into the play and finishing a one-time pass from Aaron Luchuk, to make it 2-1.
It was McCormick’s 7th of the season.
That was the only goal of the frame, with Högberg stopping all nine shots he faced.
In the third, it was Binghamton who struck early, with Nathan Bastian tipping a shot past a screened Högberg to tie it 2-2.
Neither team found the net through the rest of the frame, or overtime, forcing a shootout.
Drake Batherson, Logan Brown and Jack Rodewald all missed their shootout attempts, with Nathan Bastian’s goal for Binghamton making the difference and sealing the win.
Below is Jack Miller’s interview with Senators head coach Troy Mann.
The B-Sens are back on the bus to Hershey, Pennsylvania for a Sunday matinee with the Bear.
