After four years starring for the Cornell University “Big Red”, Belleville’s Hanna Bunton is ready to begin her professional hockey career….in China.
Bunton has been drafted by the Vanke Rays who will make their debut in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League this season.
The 22 year old Bunton is a graduate of St. Theresa Secondary School and the Belleville Bearcats. Belleville’s 2013 Athlete of the Year led Cornell in scoring with 29 points in 34 games to help lead the “Big Red” to the NCAA semi finals. Bunton was named the Ivy League Player of the Year.
Vanke is one of two new teams in China that will boost the CWHL to 7. Toronto, Markham, Boston, Montreal and Calgary are the others.
