The Ministry of Transportation is now moving forward with the preferred option to reconstruct a major artery linking Prince Edward County to Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory along Highway 49.
Residents and municipal officials have agreed to a five year timeline for the Quinte Skyway Bridge rebuild that is estimated to cost $76 million.
MTO spokeswoman Brandy Duhaime said both municipalities signed off on the plan that will have the lowest impact on emergency services and minimal traffic delays due to short construction zones with one lane open and traffic lights.
If everything goes according to plan construction will commence in 2018.
