Belleville Police Service has released a statement thanking the community for their ongoing support in the wake of Sunday’s shooting outside the Sons of Jacob Synagogue.
In the statement they said that Constable Jeffery Smith, who was wounded during the shooting, is continuing to recover and that he and his family appreciate the the outpouring of compassion towards them. They also ask for privacy as they navigate the road ahead during the recovery process.

On behalf of the Belleville Police Service, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to the community for the overwhelming support, kind messages, thoughts, prayers, and well wishes received over the past several days.
The outpouring of compassion has been a tremendous source of strength and comfort for Constable Smith and his loved ones as he continues his recovery.
At this time, the family’s focus remains on Constable Smith’s healing. We respectfully ask that his privacy, and that of his family, be honoured as they navigate the road ahead. As such, the family will not be participating in media interviews or public engagements.
We thank everyone for their understanding.
