Judy Kent, a Picton woman, has been officially invested into the Order of Canada in honour of her work in driving social change through sports.
Kent was originally awarded the Order of Canada in 2024, however, a COVID-era backlog meant that her investment into the order was delayed until October 2, 2026.
Already having been inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame, she was the first woman to serve as both president of Commonwealth Sport Canada and Canada’s chef de mission for the Commonwealth Games. She has also worked tirelessly to promote gender equality and inclusion.
She authored a paper on sport for international development that laid the framework for the creation of the SportWORKS program.
