Peterborough County OPP have charged a person after they failed to stop for police and crashed their vehicle.
On Thursday, shortly before 7 a.m., an OPP officer was conducting speed enforcement along County Road 4 in Doro-Dummer Township. The officer saw a vehicle moving west at more than double the posted speed limit. The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop. After the officer saw the vehicle cross into the opposing lane, he stopped the pursuit due to public safety concerns.
Shortly after, the same vehicle turned south on Television Road, where the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway and came to rest in a ditch. Officers arrived on scene and the uninjured driver was arrested.
Bryce Watson, a 31-year-old from Courtice, was arrested and charged with dangerous operation, flight from a peace officer, stunt driving, and speeding. His licence was suspended for 30 days, and vehicle impounded for 14 days. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough in December.
