“I extend my warmest congratulations to all newly elected mayors, councillors and school board trustees across the Quinte region, and thank every candidate who put their name forward in service to their community and our local democracy.
Congratulations to Belleville mayor-elect Paul Fleming, Quinte West mayor-elect Zack Card and Prince Edward County mayor-elect Ernie Margetson. I look forward to working alongside you and your newly elected councils to advance regional priorities, strengthen our communities and deliver results for the residents we serve.
I also want to recognize and thank every candidate who participated in this election. Running for public office demands dedication, courage and a deep commitment to public service. Regardless of the outcome, your willingness to step forward helps strengthen both our communities and our democracy.
As we look ahead, I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to three outstanding municipal leaders for their years of service. In Belleville, outgoing mayor Neil Ellis dedicated 12 years as mayor and six years of service as the Member of Parliament for Bay of Quinte. For nearly two decades, Neil answered the call to public service with dedication, integrity and a steadfast commitment to the people of Belleville. His leadership helped guide the city’s growth and prosperity, and his contributions will be felt for generations to come.
In Quinte West, Jim Harrison devoted more than three decades to municipal politics, including three terms as mayor, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of leadership and community-building. Many of us will fondly remember his signature phrase, “Quinte West is the best.” I wish Jim and Jane all the very best in this next chapter.
In Prince Edward County, Steve Ferguson dedicated 12 years around the County horseshoe, helping guide the community through growth, change and opportunity with a steadfast commitment to residents. His contributions have left a lasting mark on the County, and I thank him for his years of service.
Together, I am confident we can continue building strong, vibrant and prosperous communities for generations to come. I wish all elected officials every success as they begin this important work, and I thank them for their commitment to serving the people of our region.”
