The Lorne Brooker Show continues to speak with local mayoral candidates in its Meet the Candidates segments.
On Friday, the show had Prince Edward County candidate Brad Nieman on to explain why he is running for mayor.
Nieman went over his background politics, including 20 years in the water/wastewater department for Prince Edward County as well as 12 years as a councillor representing Ward 2 – Bloomfield/Hallowell.
He says he wants to see more small industries make their way into the county.
“Belleville and Quinte West, they do get the big industries, but are there smaller industries that could accompany the big ones that we could attract to come to the county,” Nieman asked.
“(The municipalities) work together on the job market. So we get our 10 to 20 jobs, the big ones, and then the bigger centres get their two (200) or 300 jobs.”
In his closing remarks about why people should vote for him, Nieman outlined three things.
“Council needs to be accountable to the voters and accountable to you. Two, we need to actually build attainable housing, attract new business, and protect our farms, your homes, your jobs, your farms. Three, and most important of all, much better fiscal management. You deserve that as taxpayers,” Nieman said.
