A Brampton man is facing charges in Quinte West after a firearms investigation.
On Saturday, just after 2pm, Quinte West OPP officers responded to a report that a projectile had struck a home along Foxboro-Stirling Road.
No injuries were reported.
Through the investigation, officers identified a person who had been conducting target shooting activities at a nearby property at the time of the incident.
As a result 50 year old Kandiah Varathakaran of Brampton was arrested and charged with reckless discharge of firearm – life or safety, careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, and mischief endangering life.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on Thursday, January 7.
The OPP is reminding firearm owners that they are responsible for ensuring firearms are used safely and in accordance with the law. Proper backstops, target placement, and an awareness of the surrounding area are essential to preventing potentially tragic incidents.
