There should be news on plans for the old Queen Mary School property in Belleville’s west end today (Tuesday).
City staff are recommending council approve the only tender from All-Together Housing Inc. for the construction of apartments on part of the land.
The company, which has built several affordable housing projects in Belleville, Quinte West and elsewhere, proposes a 90-unit building including 45 affordable apartments and 18 accessible units.
All-Together Housing’s tender was for $1,250,000 million plus tax.
The existing playground would remain as is and the tender does not include the redevelopment of the school itself.
Council will also decide whether or not to issue a Request for Proposals for Part 2 (the former school site) for a multi-unit residential development up to 55 units with an affordable housing component, and to utilize Housing Accelerator Funds to cover the cost associated with the demolition of the former school building;
