A student from Trenton is among nine students who are recipients of the annual Schulich Builders Scholarships for Skilled Trades, one of the largest skilled trades scholarship programs in Canada.
Each scholarship is designed to support students entering skilled trades, with $40,000 awarded to students enrolled in trades programs of two years, and $20,000 awarded to students in one-year certificate programs.
The scholarships cover tuition, tools, and living expenses.
Kayla Simm (Welding and Fabrication) received a two-year scholarship worth $40,000.
“Receiving this scholarship means I was given the ability to empower the next generation of tradespeople,” says Simm in the press release.
“The trades are full of unique and rewarding opportunities that everyone should be able to enjoy. I want to inspire the next generations especially the girls to push against the normal and work in a field they are genuinely passionate about.”
