The Rock 107 Labour Day Classic, Sprint Extravaganza was fast and dirty fun! The weekend included two full nights of racing with eight different classes hitting the track for twelve feature races. This action was all brought to the fans by Mystical Distributing Ltd., Rock 107, Cole’s Timber Mart, Steven’s Insulation, and Rapid Rad.
Canadian Modified Double Feature Night One
The Bainer’s OilGARD Anti Rust Canadian Modifieds had two features lined up for the Labour Day Classic weekend night one.
Race one saw a nasty caution sending points leader No.40 Ron Wadforth to the pits along with No.2 Leslie Mowat and No.85 Brittany Moon. Later concluding with No.1 Shawn Gregory taking the win.
Race two saw both No.40 Wadforth and No.2 Mowat back on the track for the August 22nd make-up race, impressive efforts from both drivers and their pit crews. Halfway through the race No.40 Wadforth had made his way to the second position with No.1 Gregory on the pole. The pair had a strong battle until the end but on the last lap No.1 Gregory entered the infield with an issue and No.40 Wadforth came out on top.
Late Model Feature Night One
The final points night for the Vanderlaan Building Product Late Model division saw the Rinaldi brothers, No.3 Nathan Rinaldi and No.7 Anthony Rinaldi, battle for first and second place. Meanwhile, points leader No.57 Charlie Sandercock charged through the pack from his fourteenth starting position.
No.3 Rinaldi was able to secure his second win on the season and tie No.46 Brandon Mowat for second in the championship.
No.57 Sandercock moved up twelve spots to finish second in the race and secured the first-place finish in the season championship.
Stinger Feature Night One
The Quinte Septic Stingers hit the track for their second last race of the season with a heavy points battle underway.
No.95c Chris Lammle won the feature and leads the points with 1085 points. Behind him No.20 Cameron Pedersen finished in fifth and is only fifty points behind Lammle. No.93 Jorden Pickell finished seventh and now sits only five points away from Pedersen.
Crate Sprints Night One and Two
The Macro Tools Action Sprint Tour saw twenty-three crate sprints hit the track for their 25-lap shootout on night one.
Last year Labour Day Bandit was No.44 Connor Ross, who won the crate sprint race here on the Labour Day, so fans were eager to see how he would do this year.
No.87 Andrew Hennessy started outside pole position on the 23-car field and powered around No.26x Campbell Baker to take the early lead with No.44 Ross following him. Ross would get close to challenging Hennessy a few times for the win, but Hennessy would hold on for the victory with Ross second and No.9 Liam Martin coming home third.
The night two Crate Sprint and it was Theresa NY native No.1V Josh Verne Jr. Moving up two positions secured the win on the 21-car sprint field. Hennessy had an impressive drive for the second night in a row moving up five positions to come home second and No.16X Keegan Baker finishing third.
360 Sprints Night One and Two
The final two races of the Lawns We Do 360 Sprint championship at Brighton Speedway were scheduled for nights one and two this weekend.
Night one saw No.5D Jacob Dykstra impressively take the win following a massive crash at Ohsweken Speedway on Friday night. Dykstra detailed that he and the team were up until 4 a.m., getting the car back in shape to take on the BSP weekend. Fifteen-year-old No.87X Skyler Evans took the early lead in the race but as the leaders caught the tail of the field and maneuvered through lap traffic, Dykstra was able to overtake Evans for the lead and did not look back. No.77 Tyler Powless would have an impressive drive from his fifth starting position to come home second with Evans finishing third on the podium.
Night two saw the fifteen-year-old No.87XS Skylar Evans starting on the outside pole and from the drop of the green he powered by No. 12DD of Darren Dryden for the early lead and on night two he was not going to make the same mistake and lead all 25 laps for the wire-to-wire win. The win also secured Evans’ first Lawns We Do BSP 360 Sprint championship! Dryden would chase Evans for the whole race but would settle for second place. Bowmanville native No.31 Dale Curran had an impressive 3rd place run to finish out the sprint car season at Brighton Speedway.
Thunder Stock Double Feature Night Two
An impressive 27 Thunders Stocks showed up taking part in the Labour Day Classic weekend meaning a B-main would have to be held to set the 24-car field. No.26 Brock Gregory started on the pole and did not look back with the win and adding to his points lead for the Brighton Automotive Thunder Stock championship by winning the first feature of the night. No.44 Tom Bailey and No.10 Carter Rhodes battle hard with Bailey holding off Rhodes for second and third respectively.
Race two, the August 22nd make-up race saw No.0 Tyler French take his fourth win on the season with Gregory coming home second and No.16 Kaitlyn O’Blenis finishing third.
Mini Stock Night Two
The Bill’s Johns Mini Stock Open event saw a total of 23-Cars with many visiting cars from across Ontario to Challenge Brighton’s best. It was local No.22x Tyson Gregory battling with Glencairn, ON native for the lead. The two ran a good clean race, and it was Gregory that secured his sixth win of the season with Butler finishing second and No. 42 Adian Fletcher coming home third.
Dirt Modified Night Two
The Dirt Modified Nostalgia Tour hit the track for their second race at Brighton Speedway this season. Twelve cars competed for the feature win but in the end No. 17 Ian Gordon finished on top.
Next Up!
The annual Danny Ried memorial 50-lap Canadian Modified race hits the track for a historic end to the points battle. It’s final points night for all divisions on the schedule including the Thunder Stocks, Mini Stocks, and Stingers. OSCAAR Hot Rods also joined us after their August 8th race at Brighton Speedway rained out. The green flag drops at 7p.m., but the gates open at 5p.m., see you their race fans!
