Two people were taken to hospital in Toronto following a collision between a pickup truck and a motorcycle in North Kawartha Township.
Peterborough County OPP and emergency crews were dispatched to Northeys Bay Road on Sunday evening just after 6:30 p.m.
Officers arrived on scene to find a westbound pickup truck with front-end damage, and a motorcycle that had been travelling east, lying on the road beside the truck.
Police say the motorcycle appeared to have failed to negotiate a bend in the road, crossing into the westbound lane resulting in the collision.
The pickup truck had two occupants, both who stated they were uninjured, although their airbags had been deployed.
The operator of the motorcycle, a 23-year-old male from Ottawa, was airlifted to a Toronto area trauma centre.
The passenger, a 22-year-old female from Peterborough, was transported to a local hospital but later, due to the extent of her injuries, was also transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre.
Northeys Bay Road remained closed for several hours while first responders dealt with the collision scene and officers trained in collision reconstruction measured and documented the scene.
The collision is still under investigation, and police ask that anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has dashcam or video footage and has not yet spoken to police, contact the Peterborough County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
