The CEO of the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board (HPEDSB) Katherine MacIver says the changeover to new companies has gone very smoothly.
“I think that the forethought of the Executive Director of Triboard Transportation to award the contracts early allowed for all of that planning to go on.”
The bidding process for the school bus contracts was a point of contention on the HPEDSB board as seen on this past Quinte News story.
A veteran school bus driver tells Quinte News that while the new companies’ hiring process and training have been professional and the
pay fair all of the other drivers she’s spoken to would have rather had the busing situation remain the same as it was prior to the bidding process.
Most if not all of the local companies drivers have been rehired by the new companies.
On another note Wednesday will be one of the most exciting days of the year for thousands of kids and their families.
CEO MacIver tells Quinte News that she’ll be out visiting a few of the board’s schools to join in what’s always a special day.
But the board and its teachers have a lot of work to do after the back to school excitement cools off.
“also the work that we know will continue throughout the year….we’re really focused on literacy and numeracy skills, focused on making sure our students are critical thinkers
and are really prepared for their future.”
And a reminder to drivers. Take extra care Wednesday morning as the school buses will be back on the roads and students and caregivers will be out and about throughout the
community.
