The Trenton Curling Club has announced it has received a $200,000 capital grant they received from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) which will fund the construction of a new ice plant at the club’s facility in Quinte West.
In a press release on Friday, the club says their current ice plant includes components dating back to 1958 and relies on Freon, a refrigerant that is harmful to the environment and no longer viable for long-term operation.
They say that the new system will significantly improve energy efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and ensure the sustainability of curling in Trenton for decades to come.
The installation is set to begin in October 2026 and is expected to be completed ahead of the 2027–2028 curling season.
