Quinte West is preparing to send representatives to the 2026 Association of Ontario Municipalities conference.
Representatives for the community have secured delegations with two ministries during the conference, the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Transportation.
The Ministry of Health delegation will meet with Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Sylvia Jones to discuss Quinte West’s growing primary care crisis and the need for equitable provincial support. Representatives will address the unique barriers Quinte West faces in physician recruitment, including a disproportionately aging population, the lack of clinic infrastructure needed to attract new physicians, and exclusion from provincial recruitment programs.
The Ministry of Transportation delegation will meet with the Ministry of Transportation’s Parliamentary Assistant Ric Bresee to discuss four key issues affecting Quinte West, including the Highway 401 expansion, the Wooler Road Bridge replacement project, enhancements to VIA Rail service in Trenton, and the downloading of responsibility for former provincial highways to municipalities.
The annual AMO Conference provides Ontario municipalities with the opportunity to discuss local issues directly with provincial government officials.
