Northumberland OPP have handed down a long list of charges after a traffic stop in Hamilton Township.
Just after midnight on Wednesday, an officer doing speed enforcement on Oak Ridges Drive clocked a driver moving at 143km/h in a posted 80 zone.
After stopping the vehicle and speaking with the driver, the officer initiated an impaired driving investigation. As a result of the investigation, the driver was taken into custody and transported to a local detachment for further testing. Police also identified a number of additional offences.
William Howard, a 32-year-old Port Hope man, has been charged with operation while impaired, blood alcohol over 80, dangerous operation, stunt driving, driving with open liquor, obstructing a licence plate, failure to have insurance card, driving without insurance, and failure to surrender permit for a motor vehicle.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in September. His vehicle was impounded for two weeks, and driver’s licence suspended for 90 days.
