The Trenton Golden Hawks have released an update for fans following the announcement of a high-profile partnership with Hockey Hall of Famer Joe Sakic.
Last month, Quinte News reported that Golden Hawks owner and Quinte West businessman Shawn Hicks had partnered with Sakic to co-own a new United States Hockey League franchise (STORY HERE).
The team is slated to begin play in San Diego starting in 2027.
Golden Hawks management released a statement Tuesday clarifying that the move creates a multi-tiered development path, connecting local Ontario Junior Hockey League play directly to North America’s premier Tier I junior system.
Management reassured fans that the Trenton franchise is not going anywhere.
According to the club, the dual ownership will establish a direct pipeline for player advancement while maintaining the team’s core focus: bringing championships home to Quinte West.
