An initial report of stolen gas has escalated into a search for a man who is alleged to have stolen multiple vehicles.
On July 19, 2026 at around 10:20 a.m., Belleville police received a report of a male at a gas station in the area of Bell Boulevard, who had failed to pay for fuel.
Further investigation determined that the vehicle the male was operating had been reported stolen.
Later in the afternoon, at 1:39 p.m., officers located the suspect vehicle driving in the area of Millennium Parkway and Sidney Street and spotted a driver matching surveillance footage from the earlier gas theft.
Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, however, the driver evaded police and fled at high speed.
Police say that the suspect continued driving recklessly, failing to stop for red lights along Bell Boulevard, leading to a brief pursuit.
Officers stopped the pursuit in the interest of public safety.
Police continued to observe the vehicle’s direction of travel and located the vehicle on Donald Street, unoccupied and damaged.
The suspect was not located at that time.
Shortly thereafter, police responded to a separate location on Donald Street regarding a stolen vehicle.
It was reported that a delivery driver had his truck stolen.
The driver reported to police that they saw a shirtless male enter the vehicle and drive away.
Additional reports were received regarding a male who had been observed operating a delivery van in the area of Riverside Park before abandoning it and fleeing on foot.
Officers searched the area, however, the suspect was not located.
The investigation remains ongoing.
