A Belleville man has been charged after a hit-and-run incident near Wallbridge Crescent and Moira Street West on Wednesday.
Belleville police responded to a two-vehicle collision in the area at around 7:20 p.m.
When officers arrived, they spotted a damaged vehicle near the intersection.
It was reported to police that one vehicle had been travelling at a high rate of speed when it struck another vehicle.
Immediately after the collision, police say that witnesses saw the suspect vehicle continue driving in a damaged condition before the driver turned onto Murney Street.
It’s alleged that the driver then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
Officers searched the area and located the male suspect at 7:44 p.m. in the area of Bridge Street West and Sidney Street.
He was taken into custody without incident.
As a result of the police investigation, 55-year-old Allen Martell of Belleville was arrested and charged with:
- Failure to stop after accident
- Dangerous operation
He was released on an undertaking with a court date in October.
The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries.
