There will be a new Mayor for the City of Quinte West.
Jim Harrison has confirmed to Quinte News that he will not be seeking re-election this fall.
He was born and raised in Brighton and graduated from E.N.S.S.
Harrison holds two university degrees (Bachelor of Science and a Masters in Education)
During his career he worked 35 years in education, serving as a teacher, principal, and vice-principal.
Jim and Jane Harrison still own a farm in Murray Ward (City of Quinte West).
Over his time in politics, he served on numerous committees, was the President of the Ontario Good Roads Association, was elected Councillor for Murray Township and then the City of Quinte West (following amalgamation).
He was elected Mayor for Quinte West in 2014.
Harrison says some of the accomplishments he is most proud of include the completion of the new fire hall and OPP stations, the Trent Port Marina, a consolidated Operations (public works) Centre, the wastewater treatment improvements in Montrose, upgrades to local sports fields, and a great relationship with Canadian Forces Base Trenton.
So far there are only two people who have put their name forward to run for the city’s top job, Councillors Shelly Stedall and Zack Card.
Residents can file nomination papers to run for council until Friday August 21st.
