The City of Belleville has announced the signing of a new family doctor to the region.
In a release, the city says that Dr. Elizabeth Ilora will be moving from the United Kingdom to Belleville this summer with her family to join her husband, who is already practicing as a family physician in the city.
Her contract was officially approved in a by-law during Belleville council’s meeting on Monday.
Dr. Ilora is expected to begin her practice this summer.
To date, Belleville’s doctor recruitment program has helped recruit more than 60 physicians and 10 nurse practitioners, with more than $9 million committed through a variety of funding sources.
This despite health care and physician recruitment not being municipal responsibilities.
Residents in need of a family physician or nurse practitioner are encouraged to register with Health Care Connect. The program is used by physicians and government agencies to match patients with available providers.
To register, call 1-800-445-1822 (TTY: 1-800-387-5559) or visit the Health Care Connect website.
