Prince Edward County says it has identified the source of contamination in Marsh Creek in Picton as a fuel spill near the intersection of Picton Main Street and Bowery Street.
The County says in a release that fuel entered the stormwater system and flowed to Marsh Creek.
A clean up crew is currently on scene at Picton Main Street cleaning up the spill, where containment measures continue to be in place in the area.
Drinking water supplied by the Picton Water Treatment Plant remains safe for consumption and monitoring of the water supply will continue throughout the incident response.
The Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) is currently investigating the cause of the spill.
