A lot of changes are coming to Base31 in Prince Edward County.
The community is celebrating its fifth anniversary.
The land was purchased in 2021 (former Picton air strip/ RCAF Station Picton) and since then, the 750-acre site has seen major plans, which have already begun to roll out.

The complete transformation of the former World War II air strip will cost hundreds of millions of dollars and will take decades to complete.
Liz Kohn is a vice president for Base31 and tells Quinte News “The District” was the first phase of the retrofit.
She says phase one of the housing plan will soon start.
“The place where all of the cultural activities happen, the food and beverage opportunities, the events and programming for families.”
“That is very specifically contained to what we’re referring to as Village A right now, it will be named. North of Kingsley Road, right across the street from the Cultural District.”
A multi-unit of the Village A (also known as Hilltop) building is where it will start.
“The rental building will be a multi-storeyed development, but keeping within a nice size that’s comparable to what you’ll find in the county. The housing types are really about a diverse range, whether they’re town homes or units that actually can break out into granny suites, or can be used for other kinds of rental opportunities, either for family members who are wanting to age in place, or for rentals to students and young people who want to stay in the county, to really expand that portfolio of not just purchase opportunities but rental opportunities as well.”
