The Trenton Golden Hawks fall are down 2-0 in their second round series against the Newmarket Hurricanes, following a 4–2 loss Sunday night.
Newmarket jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period with markers from Lucas Teixeira and Marcello Giorgi.
Trenton responded in the second frame with goals from Lucas Digiantommaso and Daylen Moses to tie the game at two.
The score remained deadlocked until late in the third period when Connor Haynes netted the game-winner for the Hurricanes with less than two minutes remaining.
Nathan Phillips added an empty-netter to seal the win.
Trenton outshot Newmarket 15-to-7 in the final period but could not beat goaltender Carter Froggett for the lead.
The Golden Hawks now trail the best-of-seven series two games to none.
Game 3 also goes in Newmarket, Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m., before returning to Quinte West Friday evening.
