The cold is coming for us here in the Quinte region.
Staff meteorologist Kevin Williams says the low Friday will be -19C, with Saturday’s high getting to just -16C.
Environment Canada has issued a cold warning with wind chills down as low as -32C, due to winds of 50- to 70-kilometres an hour.
Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.
Watch for cold-related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes. If present, move indoors and begin warming.
Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
Check on older family, friends and neighbours.
Keep emergency supplies in your vehicle such as extra blankets and jumper cables.
Outdoor workers should take regularly-scheduled breaks to warm up.
