Thousands of people across the region are still in need of a family doctor, however, many of them are still not registered under Health Care Connect, a provincial initiative aimed at helping people find primary care.
A local advocacy group wants to see as many people on that list as possible.
Our TMH is a group of concerned citizens advocating for the preservation, protection and enhancement of services at Trenton Memorial Hospital.
Our TMH’s Phil Wild says many people just haven’t bothered to sign up or, they get on the website and become too overwhelmed to finish the process.
“To those that are elderly, infirm, or not tech savvy, it’s an overwhelming task, because when you say yes to a question, it asks you more questions, and so we’ve identified that a lot of individuals initiate registration, and then they drop it. It just gets too complicated, and they log off.“
The group has started a recruitment drive to get more people to add their names to Health Care Connect.
There are QR codes that can be scanned on their Facebook page taking people directly to the Health Care Connect website.
For those who need help with the registration process, Our TMH is holding several clinics where volunteers will be on hand to provide aid.
Wild says having as many people as possible on the list serves another purpose.
“If we were able to get that list up so that it’s more realistic, then I think it is proof to the provincial government that the need is much greater than they think it is.”
