Hastings County councillors are set to get a pay bump this year.
During Thursday’s meeting, Hastings County Council voted to approve a proposed update to pay for councillors.
The new model includes a base salary of $12,145, with additional duties compensated with a per diem rate of $486.94. This is the 2025 per diem rate plus a 3% cost of living adjustment.
The hybrid model was one of three options presented previously to the committee, with options for a flat salary and only per diem pay also considered. Changes were considered due to county council being paid significantly less than other municipal councils, and the previous per diem-only model providing unpredictable costs.
Council approved the new compensation plan without debate.
