Prince Edward County is receiving a grant to help its firefighters.
During Thursday’s council meeting, council discussed receiving the grant, for a total of $164,450 from the Office of the Fire Marshal Fire Protection Grant.
The funding will support investments in the department’s cancer-prevention program. Some of the funds will go towards replacing an aging respirator fit tester, and increasing the supply of breathing masks. Other funds will be used to improve field decontamination equipment, making it easier to wash away harmful contaminants to which firefighters have been exposed.
Council moved to accept the grant funding without debate.
