There have been a lot of negative comments by the opposition parties at Queen’s Park about the government’s Skills Development Fund, however, that’s not how the Quinte Economic Development Commission (QEDC), Loyalist College, and local manufacturers sees things.
The Skills Development Fund pays for the program Elevate Plus which provides training for those wanting to get back into the workforce.
CEO of the QEDC Chris King says Elevate Plus has helped almost 400 people get back into the workforce and provided training to many more to upgrade their skills.
“How we use the Skills Development Fund may be different from other areas across the province but in our region it’s working well.”
King noted that QEDC first received training funding from a Liberal government program in 2016 named Skills Advance Ontario.
The funding must be applied for each year.
