Several sources to Quinte News indicate that Belleville’s Loyalist College is going to see more cuts to staff and programs.
This is on top of the announced program reductions and staffing layoffs announced in February (2025).
In February, 30 per cent of programs and 20 per cent of staff were announced for cuts and layoffs, at the end of course completions.
Sources have confirmed to Quinte News the cuts could be double digits (percentages), for both programs and faculty.
From fall 2024 until this most recent announcement, a source indicates that there will be a reduction of close to 50 per cent of faculty.
Students will be able to complete their studies and receive accreditation in the affected programs.
We have contacted the top brass at the college for more information and are anticipating an interview on Monday.
In Loyalist College’s financial statements, there was a concern raised over resources.
“The college has a working capital deficiency at March 31, 2025, experienced negative cash flows from operating activities for the year then ended, and management’s forecast anticipates that the college will deplete its cash resources prior to March 31, 2026. These conditions indicate the existence of material uncertainties that may cast significant doubt about the college’s ability to continue as a going concern.”
College officials have raised concern with the provincial funding levels, and the federal government announcing major cuts to the international student program.
