Quinte West is preparing to take several measures to calm down traffic on Highway 2.
During Wednesday’s council meeting, council discussed a proposal to install solar-powered speed signs and declare a community safety zone along the stretch of Old Highway 2 between RCAF Road and Quinte View Drive.
“It’s becoming an increasing problem as we have more and more development,” said Councillor Stedall. “Take a look at improved lanes across Highway 2 so that we can get pedestrians and bikes off the road. So this is a great measure to start with, but I just don’t think it’s going far enough.”
A memorial sign by MADD is also set to be placed along that stretch of road, in memory of two young women who were killed when an impaired driver struck their vehicle in the area.
The motion was approved after brief debate.
