The members of Quinte Health’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Physicial unit at Belleville General put their
money where their mouths are when it comes to improving their skill to help patients during a critical life-saving procedure.
The physicians personally donated $20,000 toward the purchase of a $40,000 pacemaker simulator for the ICU and Tuesday the group was presented with the Values in Action Award by the board of directors.
The simulator will allow the doctors to practise the insertion of a pacemaker during medical emergencies.
The actual need for such an urgent action does not occur frequently in smaller hospitals so the simulator will allow the physicians to regularly practise the work so as to be up to speed when called upon.
