On Sunday, June 8, seven area United churches will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of The United Church of Canada. An outdoor service and reception will be held at Lions Pavilion, Zwick’s Park starting at 10:30 a.m. The celebration will feature live music, children’s activities. and guest preacher and church historian, the Reverend Dr. John Young. The celebration is open to all ages.
Continuing The United Church of Canada’s long tradition of seeking justice, donations received at the event will support the denomination’s various local programs to address food insecurity.
An informal reception will follow the program where people can meet and greet friends old and new over anniversary cake and a cold or hot drink.
If the weather on June 8 is too wet or windy for outdoors, the celebration will move to Bridge Street United Church, at the corner of Bridge and Church streets. The event will be live-streamed on St. Mark’s United Church’s YouTube channel, starting at 10:15 a.m. Bridge Street United Church will be open on June 8 for viewing the live stream for anyone not able to attend the outdoor event at Zwick’s Park.
