Politicians are calling it the most important federal election in a lifetime and it seems voters are believing that message.
Early lineups to vote on day one of advance voting Good Friday were seen across the country and in the Quinte region.
In Belleville, people were waiting outside both the Salvation Army and Lion’s Club polling locations before noon.
In the 2021 federal election, voter turnout nationally was 62.6 per cent. It was higher locally.
In Bay of Quinte riding, turnout was 65%, in Hastings-Lennox and Addington it was 66%, and
in Northumberland-Peterborough South it was 70%.
The advance voting period ends Monday at 9 p.m., however, people can vote anytime at riding returning offices. Election day is April 28.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Hastings-Lennox and Addington has now become Hastings-Lennox and Addington-Tyendinaga riding
while Northumberland-Peterborough South riding is now called Northumberland-Clarke.
