Belleville City Council received an update on the Black Bear Ridge Golf Course and Resort property.
The company behind the property is proposing to develop a fully-serviced four-season resort-style community spanning 370 hectares of land situated on Harmony Road in Thurlow Ward.
It would also include resort accommodations that would link to the existing golf course, complementary commercial and recreational facilities, and residential components comprising approximately 3,000 dwelling units.
A full breakdown of the report and progress was delivered to council on Tuesday.
Councillor Paul Carr commented on the update saying it is an exciting endeavour for the city and complimented the report.
He wanted to emphasize, based on discussion in public comments, online and even at the City of Belleville, that the municipality doesn’t build homes.
“I’ve seen comments, in relation to this with homes attached to a resort, the affordability conversation tends to come up. These are market driven and proponent driven in terms of building,” Carr told council.
“The City of Belleville, like all municipalities, cannot dictate the affordability level unless it’s a direct project that the city is involved in. So I just want to emphasize that as people see this grow, and it is an exciting endeavour for sure that requires a lot of due diligence and that will be undertaken as outlined in the report, but in no way are we able to control the market in terms of affordability.”
Council approved receiving the report.
