Officers from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to various calls and patrolled the county with the goal of keeping our communities safe.
On September 7, 2024, at approximately 8:00 a.m., OPP were conducting radar enforcement on Highway 401 eastbound in the Municipality of Port Hope. Police observed a pick-up truck travelling at a speed of 161 Km/h.
Officers activated their emergency lights but the vehicle continued at varying rates of high speed. The pick-up truck was then observed driving erratically and without moving over, passed an OPP cruiser parked on the hard shoulder with lights activated at another traffic stop.
As the driver observed more patrol cars, they decelerated and pulled over to the hard shoulder. The accused was then placed under arrest and police located approximately 0.3 grams of suspected Cocaine with a street value of $30.
Dante COLAIANNI, 57-years-ol d, from Oakville, has been charged with:
- Dangerous Operation
- Flight from peace officer
- Possession of a Schedule I substance – Cocaine
- Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed
- Fail to slow down and proceed with caution for emergency vehicle or tow truck
- Fail to properly wear seat belt
- Fail to signal – lane change
- Fail to surrender insurance card.
The accused was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg. They also had their driver’s licence suspended for 30 days and vehicle impounded for 14 days.
On September 8, 2024, at approximately 1:35 a.m., police responded to a report of a structure fire at a residential address on Wright Road in the Municipality of Port Hope. The Fire Department advised that a passer-by had reported the fire and that they, along with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were on route.
Officers arrived and made efforts to a scertain the safety of persons associated to the address while firefighters addressed the blaze. The building sustained major damage as a result of the incident. Occupants usually at the location were not there and police were able to determine that there were no parties at the residence.
At this time, foul play is not suspected by police.
On August 30, 2024, shortly after 10:30 p.m., police responded to a report of an assault at an address on County Road 18 in the Township of Alnwick-Haldimand. EMS also attended and the victim was transported to a local hospital due to having sustained a injuries which can be described as minor. The accused was known to the complainant.
An investigation into the altercation began and as a result, officers made an arrest on September 8, 2024.
Jason CARAVAN, 52-years-old, from Clarington, has been charged with:
- Assault.
The individual is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a f uture date.
On September 8, 2024, at approximately 9:50 a.m., OPP were conducting radar enforcement on Norham Road in the Municipality of Trent Hills. Police observed a pick-up truck travelling at a speed of 101 Km/h in a posted 70 Km/h zone. The vehicle was stopped and an officer utilised Mandatory Alcohol Screening (MAS) by making a demand for breath into an Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver complied and as a result, the individual was arrested and transported to a local detachment for further tests.
Bradley WILSON, 34-years-old, from Warkworth, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Speeding
- Driver fail to surrender licence
- Colour coating obscuring interior
- Drive with windshield coated – view obstructed
- Obstruct plate
- Improper mudguards.
The accused is scheduled to appear befor e the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date. Their driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.
