A committee of Stirling-Rawdon council believes the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, more commonly known as the “Sushine List” is way out of date.
For years the names and salaries of Ontario civil servants earning $100,000 or more have been publicly reported on an annual basis.
Stirling-Rawdon’s Finance and Personnel Committee is recommending council approve a motion to have the Act updated to reflect inflation rates since 1996 and that the inflation rate be applied each year to the requirement to report public sector salaries.
Stirling-Rawdon staff says if inflation were applied to salaries from 1996 to 2023 the salary disclosure amount would be $176,500 not $100,000.
If council approves the motion it will be sent off to the Premier, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, and all Ontario municipalities.
