Northumberland OPP say there will be increased police presence on roadways, trails and on the water during the August long weekend.
Police say they will be targeting the “Big Four”, speeding, distracted driving, seatbelts and impaired driving.
There will also be a focus on the “Move Over Law.”
That law requires drivers to slow down and proceed with caution when passing an emergency vehicle parked on the side of the highway with lights activated including ambulances, police vehicles and tow trucks.
If there is more than one lane, the law requires drivers to move over and leave one lane between their vehicle and the parked emergency vehicle if it is safe to do so.
OPP say they will be increasing patrols and enforcement in those areas “to ensure compliance and to prevent collisions before they happen.”
