Eight new pickleball courts at Belleville’s Clifford Sonny Belch Park are now open.
The city’s Manager of Operations Planning and Development with Transportation & Operations Services, Rowland Cave-Browne-Cave says after some unfortunate delays they are pleased to open the addition to the park.
The courts will operate from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. (subject to change) and run on a first come first served basis.
To ensure fair and proper use, participants are asked to maintain 20-30 minutes of playtime if others are waiting to use the facilities and abide by the following rules of participation:
- Courts are to be used for pickleball only – no skateboards, bikes, scooters or other wheeled devices (with the exception of wheelchairs) are permitted and the courts are not to be used for any other sports.
- No dogs allowed.
- Proper footwear is required.
- Smoking is not permitted within 15 metres of any sports facility.
- Please be respectful of park neighbours and keep noise to a minimum.
The former Hillcrest Park on West Street, which was renamed last year after former city councillor and CAO Clifford “Sonny” Belch, has undergone several upgrades including walking trails, basketball courts and a new playground and skate dot that are being completed this year.
