Belleville native Trevor Hoskin has been named the Top Forward by the Canadian Junior Hockey League.
Hoskin played for the Cobourg Cougars of the OJHL.
He earned the honour over fellow Top Forward finalists Luka Sukovic, Bonnyville Pontiacs (AJHL); Alex Blais, Rangers de Montreal (LHJAAAQ); Dalton Andrew, Winkler Flyers (MJHL) and Spencer Bell, Humboldt Broncos (SJHL), after a voting process completed by the CJHL’s nine-member leagues, for their respective efforts during the course of the regular season.
A First Team Ontario Junior Hockey League All-Star, the 19-year-old Hoskin had earlier captured OJHL MVP and top scorer laurels.
Wrapping up the campaign with 100 points, including 42 goals, nine of his tallies were game winners, four came shorthanded while he notched nine more markers via the power play over the course of 52 contests.
Missing four games while representing the OJHL at the World Junior A Hockey Challenge in Nova Scotia this past December, Hoskin went on to be named to the all-tournament team after helping Team Canada East mine a silver medal.
Serving as an assistant captain in Cobourg this season, he committed to NCAA Division 1 Niagara University (Atlantic Hockey America), following his MVP performance at the Eastern Canada All-Star Challenge in Trenton, Ont.
“Trevor was a very important member of our team,” offered Cobourg head coach Connor Armour in discussing the highly-skilled Hoskin.
“Seeing him develop, not only as a player, but also a person, has been fun to watch,” added Armour. “He’s got a bright future in hockey.”
