The Annual Ontario Good Roads Conference wraps ups Wednesday in Toronto.
It’s been a busy couple of days for City of Belleville Director of Transportation & Operations Joe Reid.
On Monday, Reid was inducted as the new President of the Association of Ontario Road Supervisors.
He will serve a one-year term.
Tuesday he was part of a presentation on Automated Speed Enforcement and offered advice to other municipalities considering the technology.
“Belleville’s not unique, you know, in the context that there’s a lot of speeding and, you know, concerns around public safety when it comes to Community Safety Zones. And they had asked me to talk about our journey thus far in implementing the Automated Speed Enforcement program.”
Starting in mid-July, four cameras will rotate around the city detecting vehicles travelling above the posted speed limits and issue tickets to violators accordingly.
Reid says the Good Roads Conference is an opportunity for municipalities to share ideas and learn about innovative solutions for their communities.
“Jeffrey Speck, he was an urban planner, talked about walkable cities and you know, just urban design and how, you know, communities can look at how we can move forward to really embrace densification and urbanization to help make things a livable city.”
He says all municipalities share the same goal with a core responsibility to protect their residents.
