A Belleville woman was sentenced to three years in custody for dangerous driving causing death in connection to a fatal collision in June 2021.
Alyshia Mowat-O’Brien was also sentenced to two years to be served concurrently with the sentence for dangerous driving causing bodily harm, and three months to be served consecutively on the sentence for driving while suspended.
Mowat-O’Brien will also be prohibited from driving for 10 years from the date of her release and will provide a sample of her DNA for forensic analysis.
She is not allowed to contact the families of those affected by the crime.
Based on an agreed statement of facts, Mowat-O’Brien, who was 31 at the time of the collision, had driven her vehicle across the south and northbound lanes of Wallbridge-Loyalist Road, crashing into another vehicle and a motorcycle.
The motorcyclist, 54-year-old Richard Thompson of Wooler, was taken to Belleville General Hospital where he died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Those in the other vehicle suffered injuries in the collision.
Justice John Bonn had found Mowat-O’Brien guilty of dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily harm in December 2023.
