The Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation has announced its upcoming “Saturday Night Fever” gala event.
The gala, based on the 1977 film with the same name, is set to take place on October 19, 2024 at the Batawa Community Centre.
A launch event took place at the centre.
“This year with the new ER expansion that was announced, we are raising funds towards that,” gala co-chair Michelle Mackay tells Quinte News.
“As we all know government does not fund a lot of the equipment that we need. So a lot of these funds will be going towards that and to a great cause.”
Earlier this month, the Ontario government announced that approximately 6,000 square feet will be renovated and 1,000 square feet will be added to Trenton Memorial Hospital for a new state-of-the-art emergency department.
The expanded emergency department is hoped to be completed by 2027.
“Everything is essential for this expansion so that the equipment can fit the rooms. Right now, the rooms are too small. There’s not enough room, so to have the expansion (means) there will be more room for the new equipment that’s going to come in to better care for our patients and for our community.” Director of Development for the foundation, Lindsay Butcher Dodds tells Quinte News.
With last year’s gala event themed around “Boots and Bling” and this year’s event being themed around 70s disco, the hope is to put together an event that not only raises funds but is also fun.
“We’ve got a great group that comes together every year … it’s just the conversations about what can we do that’s different. What can we do that’s fun. We want to be able to bring people together,” Mackay tells Quinte News.
“It doesn’t have to be completely formal. It can be casual formal, really want to leave it a bit to people’s imaginations as well. We really just want to have a fun night that people enjoy. Yes, the ultimate purpose is to raise funds for the hospital, but we want people to have a good time and just truly enjoy themselves throughout the night.”
The foundation says the night will bring with it good food, music and activities to take part in while also promising some surprises in store for the gala event.
