A member of the Official Opposition at Queen’s Park is calling for action on Belleville’s homelessness and drug addiction crisis.
Wednesday NDP MPP Lisa Gretzky, the party’s critic for Mental Health and Addictions. said the provincial government should offer immediate funding for both an integrated services hub and a detox centre.
Mayor Neil Ellis recently asked the province for $2 million to get The Bridge services hub open by this winter but local MPP Todd Smith said the government needs to see a business plan before any major funding can be made available.
The province did provide a little over $200,000 recently to increase staffing at local social service agencies.
