There’s a bit of a silver lining surrounding the dark cloud that was the recent announcement that Cascades would be closing both its Trenton and Belleville plants, putting well over 200 people out of work.
The Executive Director of the Quinte Economic Development Commission Chris King tells Quinte News that other companies have been asking questions.
“We’ve already had half a dozen inquiries from people who’ve reached out to us directly, without being proactive. They’re asking about the paper mill in Trenton or the converting operation in Belleville. There are companies asking about those buildings, what the uses are we can’t say yet, but there is interest.”
It will be a little longer before its decided how Cascades will deal with its local properties.
King adds that generally there’s still a lot of interest from industry in either expanding their current operations here or moving to the area.
