Belleville Mayor Neil Ellis will provide an update on the city’s State of Emergency brought on by multiple drug overdose cases three weeks ago at a press conference Tuesday afternoon (February 20).
Mayor Ellis is also expected to comment on a meeting with the Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions Michael Tibollo and MPP Todd Smith, among others, last Thursday.
Ellis would not immediately comment after the meeting at which the province announced $216,000 in one-time funding to increase staffing at local support services and emergency responders.
The city had asked the province for $2 million to get an integrated services hub for the homeless up and running by the fall at the former Banquet Centre at Alhambra Square.
Also requested was help for the creation of a detox centre.
